UNP Parliamentary group today witnessed ugly scenes when a MP accused the leadership for favouring a party member who is allegedly implicated in a rape case.
The allegations were made by Kalutara district UNP MP Palitha Thevarapperuma.
He entered into a heated argument with members of the UNP Leadership Council and the party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe claiming that the party had objected to a request that his son be allowed to contest from the kalutara district at the upcoming Provincial elections while another member implicated in a rape case had been permitted to contest.
UNP Chairman Kabir Hasheem said that they would meet to discuss as to what disciplinary action should be taken against the MP.
The need for a disciplined party has emerged once again.
