The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) has said that it will support the common opposition candidate. the JHU General Secretary Champika Ranawaka said that they have lost trust in President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Speaking at a media briefing flanked by venerable Athraliye Rathana thero Ranawaka said that the JHU has arrived at a common understanding with Sirisena on a number of matters and this agreements will be for a short time span of one hundred days and subsequently each party cold canvass on it’s own.
Many political commentators are alert to the fact that the JHU did not sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Viharamaha Devi park in Colombo yesterday with the others and it has signed its own MOU with Maithripala Sirisena separately.
Signing its own MOU separately may signal that the JHU is seeking it’s own space within the alliance.
