Sri Lanka’s footwear and leather sector is booming with growth rate of 63 percent from the previous year.
The total Leather and Leather Product exports stood at US$ 51 million in 2013 increasing 63.5% from the US$ 31.19 million earned in the previous year.
“Our footwear and leather exports have shown a strong growth trend,” Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiyutheen said Friday addressing the inauguration of the sixth edition of the Footwear and Leather Fair at the BMICH.
Meanwhile Sinhala Ravaya is reportedly planning to conduct a protest march against cattle slaughter from February 9th till the 16th.
The march is scheduled to commence from the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy and conclude in front of the President’s residence in Colombo.
The movement has continuously campaigned against cattle slaughter and has demanded the government to ban it in the country.
More leather products means more slaughtering of cattle-a huge contradiction-that needs to be resolved?
