An election monitoring organization in Sri Lanka, Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) wrote a letter to the Governor of North Central Provincial Council Karunaratne Divulgane protesting his unethical practice.
CAFFE said its monitors had noticed that the senior state official was present on the stage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s inaugural election rally.
The massive rally was held yesterday in Anuradhapura with the participation of a number of party seniors and supporters.
Election monitors say that the ruling alliance has used a large number of public transport buses belonged to state owned Sri Lanka Transport Board to bring crowds to Anuradhapura.
However, the government has said that 1,185 buses were leased from the SLTB to haul the crowd.
