Sri Lanka is supporting Vietnam’s claim on the East sea issue.

 

Vietnam is asking China to halt its drilling activates in part of the east sea.

Vietnam clarifies that China is infringing upon its sovereignty and breeching the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Sri Lanka’ PM D.M. Jayaratne made the statement at a reception given by PM Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday (May 9), regarding the East Sea issue.

The PM proposed dealing with the issue by peaceful measures on the basis of the international law.

Sri Lanka’s delegation led by PM D.M. Jayaratne participated in the United Nations Day of Vesak in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Jayaratna’s statement comes as a bit of surprise given the strong relations between China and Sri Lanka. China is Sri Lanka’s main investor and key supporter when it comes to defending the country at the UNHCR in Geneeva.
