Taxman Jailed for 101 Years

The Colombo High Court on  Thursday  imposed a  101 year jail term (to run concurrently in three years)  and Rs 12 billion fine on the former Deputy Commissioner of Inland Revnue G.Soysa  who pleaded guilty in the VAT (Value Added Tax) fraud case .

 

He was one of the main persons  accused in the multi-billion rupee VAT fraud  which took  place in the country from November 2002 to April 2004.

 

Earlier  an open warrant  was  issued to arrest 8suspects who are remaining at large overseas and assistance of INTERPOL has been sought to nab them.
