Gota is relaxed after returning to Colombo

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who returned to Sri Lanka on board a Singapore Airlines flight is now settled in a state bungalow.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport with his wife Ayoma Rajapaksha and security personnel who had been with him all throughout.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa returned seven weeks after he fled the country has now moved into a state bungalow in Colombo seven.

His new residence is in the Malalasekara Mawatha area which is a residential hub for the ruling elite of the country.

Rajapaksa was welcomed by several of his ministers and politicians as he disembarked and directly got into the motorcade that was awaiting him.

“There was a rush of government politicians to garland him as he came out of the aircraft,” an official told AFP.

“He has been living in a Thai hotel as a virtual prisoner and was keen to return,” a defense official, who asked not to be named, told AFP.

“We have just created a new security division to protect him after his return,” the official added.

“The unit comprises elements from the army and police commandos.” The AFP reported.
Aljazeera Colombo correspondent Minel Fernandez said that the former President is relaxed after returning to Sri Lanka.
