India wants Sri Lanka to respect democratic values

raveesh-kumarIndia has urged Sri Lanka to ensure that ‘the democratic values and the constitutional process’ be followed in the current political crisis.

“As a democracy and a close friendly neighbor, we hope that democratic values and the constitutional process will be respected. We will continue to extend our developmental assistance to the friendly people of Sri Lanka,” said the Official Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs, Raveesh Kumar.

This was the first time that India commented on the situation in Colombo which has turned into a stand-off between President Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
