No one should fail O’L

The half a million 16-year-old Sri Lankan children who sat on their O’Level examination have missed a large number of school days due to the corona pandemic and the political and economic crisis.

Out of the 195, school days per year have missed about 111 school days in 2020 (their first O’Level year) and 154 school days in 2021 according to a study done by social commentator Ruwanthi Chikara.

Chikera argues that the country could begin by ensuring that no child of the 2021 O’Level batch is failed at this recently concluded exam.

She points out that this will be a symbolic but important challenge to the system and not ensuring protection for the children of Sri Lankan would be a shameful moral failure on the part of the collective adults of this country.
