Power cuts to end on March 5th – President

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s office has announced that there will be no power cuts from March 5th onwards.

The distribution of fuel to all fuel stations across the country will be normalized said the President’s office but long queues were seen in front of filling stations meanwhile it has been reported that a vessel with diesel has arrived in the port of Colombo.

Sri Lanka currently needs about $500 million a month to source diesel and gasoline, and the finance minister is actively looking around for loans from many countries.

The plan as to how to normalize power supplies have not been made public. However, Namal Hewage, general manager of state-run Lanka Coal Co Pvt Ltd, said the country had sufficient coal to ensure a continuous supply of electricity until September.
