Cricketer Danushka refused bail for sex offence in Sydney

Dhanushka Gunathilaka has been arrested by the Australian police after a 29-year-old woman accused him of a sexual assault

Australian media has reported that Gunathilaka had been in contact with this woman via a dating chat and they had met at a private residence in the suburbs of Sydney earlier this week.

Police allege the woman had exchanged messages with Mr Gunathilaka for days via an online dating app.  Sri Lankan in Sydney confirmed to Lanka e news that Danushka Gunathilaka was produced and refused bail at the will be produced in courts and the Srilankan team will be heading home without him.

The incident happened at a residence in  Rose Bay , Sydney earlier this week.

“Police confirmed the international cricket star, 31, was arrested at a Sussex Street hotel about 1 am on Sunday over the alleged incident in Sydney’s east last week. Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad and Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command commenced a joint investigation following reports a 29-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted at home in Rose Bay.”

 

The Australian said.

Danushka Gunathilaka was replaced by Ashen Bandara due to an injury and given an opportunity to stay with the squad in the   T20 World Cup in Australia.

Left-handed opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka was suspended from International Cricket for six matches together with a 20% fine of his annual contract fee for misconduct previously
