Dramatic Exit of Chaminda

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Badulla Districts MP Chaminda Wijesiri made a dramatic exit from Parliament today and quit politics for personal reasons.

Wijesiri told Parliament that the public has rejected all 225 MPs, including himself, and that has had an impact on his family. How many have pointed out that this rejection has been going on for some time and speculated that the parliamentarian had other reasons to leave?

Parliamentarian Dilan Prera from Badulla is expected to move to the SJB, and some say that Chaminda Wijesiri is upset about this.

A number of SJB organizers have oppressed crossovers of those who have been accused of racially  prejudiced   and allegedly corrupt.

Chaminda Wijesiri did rule out the possibility of contesting the next election if he was given suitable recognition.

He said that the current Parliament does not have a mandate, and so it was time that a new Parliament was elected.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of Parliament has informed the Election Commission of the seat vacated by Chaminda Wijesiri following his resignation.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s member, Nayana Wasalathilake, is tipped to fill the Parliament seat that fell vacant following the resignation of Wijesiri.
Wasalathilake, who secured 31,307 votes in the 2020 general election from the Badulla District, is next in line on the SJB’s preferential vote list.
