State Minister Sanath Nishantha Passes away in Accident

State Minister Sanath Nishantha (48) and his Personal Security Officer (PSO) have died following a collision on the Katunayake Expressway.

The SUV carrying Nishantha collided with a container truck while heading from Katunayake to Colombo.

The State Minister’s vehicle had reportedly met with an accident on the Katunayake Highway earlier this morning (25 Jan.), following which three persons including the State Minister were admitted to the Ragama Hospital.

A jeep that was driving towards Colombo from Katunayake collided with a container vehicle that was driving in the same direction and then collided with the safety fence of the road.

The state minister Sanath Nishantha, who was traveling in the jeep in this accident, the police constable 72542 Jayakodi, who was his security officer and the driver of the jeep were seriously injured and admitted to the Ragama hospital.

Hospital sources later confirmed that two persons, including State Minister Nishantha, had succumbed to their injuries before admission
