Anura Kumara Dissanayake to Contest Presidential Election

Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and the National People’s Power (NPP), has announced that he will contest the upcoming presidential election.

Dissanayake is the most popular candidate for the election, with 40% of likely voters saying they would vote for him. He is a charismatic and articulate leader who is known for his radical political views and his outspoken criticism of the government.

Dissanayake has been a Member of Parliament since 2004 and has served as the leader of the JVP since 2014. He is also the leader of the NPP, a coalition of left-wing parties that was formed in 2020.

In his announcement, Dissanayake said that he is running for president to bring change to Sri Lanka. He promised to address the country’s economic crisis, to improve social justice, and to protect the environment.

Dissanayake’s announcement has been welcomed by many Sri Lankans who are looking for a change from the current government. However, he also faces some challenges, including his lack of experience in government and his radical political views.

The presidential election is scheduled to be held in November 2023. It is likely to be a close race between Dissanayake and the other leading candidates, Sajith Premadasa and Ranil Wickremesinghe.
