Demtagoda Chaminda and Ruwan Were not only brothers but companions on a journey of crime. Now The assets of Ruwan have been frozen under the Money Laundering Act and Ruwan’s wife, sister and Son are in custody.

The drug empire of Ruwan seems very a family-run business.

 

Ruwan and Chaminda always portrayed themselves as a philanthropist who always contributed to community and religious ceremonies. The first point of contact to the underworld was Ambigar who was a notaries criminal who dominated Dematagoda.
They were not only able to hide their drug dealing but also the billions of wealth earned from these drug dealings.
The gossip of Dematagoda is the brothers were well supported by the police, Politicians and prison officials.

 

Police Raid 
Chaminda is now in prison after receiving a death sentence for the killing of Bharatha Premachandra, it is rumour that he is well looked after within the prison walls as they bribe the prison official as needed
It is estimated that Ruwan will sell more than one thousand kilograms within 2021-23. In April 2021, the Indian Coast Guard arrested a multi-day trawler with five suspects carrying 340 kg of heroin and it was revealed that the contraband of narcotics was brought to Sri Lanka by Dematagoda Ruwan, the Police spokesman said.
On November 29th the residence of Ruwan was raided by the Police units of the CID and STF. The police who worked in his three-storied mansion found several luxury vehicles including a BMW and Range-Rrover with a value of over a billion addition the police found one and half Kilograms of gold an air rifle and two pistols.
Ruwan faced the Police calmly and asked them ‘What have I done wrong’?
A few years ago the two brothers were selling curry leaves in the Bazzar of Dematagoda but then how did they acquire all this wealth?

He told the police that he had acquired this wealth by engaging in Gemming and running a nightclub and several businesses.

Deamtagoda Ruwan is to have sold about four Kilograms of drugs daily in the Dematagoda and Negambo areas and he fiercely guarded his territory with a triangular combination of the underworld, police and politicians.
The Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has now arrested the wife, t after it was uncovered that property worth over Rs. 100 million, which are suspected to have been obtained using drug money and other illicit means, were purchased by registering them in the names of the arrested individuals.
The 27-year-old son of Dematagoda Ruwan, who is now in custody and has been identified as Tharindu Madhusanka, is the Kuppiyawatte Electorate Organiser of a leading political party.

Value of 790 Million 

Many police officers were seen at his night club and he was a close associate of Duminda Silva.

The CID said the total assets that have been seized from ‘Dematagoda Ruwan’ so far have been valued at over Rs. 790 million.

The seized assets, including 09 super luxury vehicles valued at over 90 million, have been registered as Government assets.

The Police have found three fixed deposits consisting of a total of Rs. 90 million, 1.5 kilos of gold worth Rs. 20 million, and three lands worth Rs. 160 million from the suspect’s possession.

Investigations are also underway into several hotels that had been owned by drug lord Ruwan.

It has been reported that the suspect had attempted to pay Rs. 50 million to CID officials urging them to halt the investigations that are underway against him.
The Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested the wife, son and sister of the drug trafficker Ruwan Chamila Prasanna alias “Dematagoda Ruwan”, who is the brother of “Dematagoda Chaminda”, a notorious drug kingpin who has been sentenced to death.

The arrest was carried out after it was uncovered that property worth over Rs. 100 million, which are suspected to have been obtained using drug money and other illicit means, were purchased by registering them in the names of the arrested individuals.
