Massive Fat Removal from Women’s Abdomen

Sri Lankan Specialist Surgeon Dr. Ananda Jayawardena who performed surgery at a private hospital in Kandy was shocked when he came to know the patient had  13.5 litres of fat in her abdomen.

The liposuction surgery took some time but was successful and now the 61-year-old retired teacher is stable and recovering.
Dr. Jayawardena said that this was a rare occasion and there was a certain degree of risk which was above average in performing this surgery

“Despite the risks, we successfully removed 13.5 litres of fat, which is a very large amount. On average, 4 to 5 litters have been removed elsewhere in the world through similar surgeries. This is a rare occurrence with such a large amount of fat”

Liposuction surgery is a cosmetic procedure that removes unwanted fat deposits from the body. It’s typically performed on areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, back, arms, and under the chin or face.

Abdominal fat accumulation, often called belly fat, can be influenced by several factors, some within our control and others not.
