former Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has returned to the island around Saturday midnight
Currently, the former president does not face any current arrest warrants. However, he has been implicated in a fundamental rights potion that calls for action against those who destroyed the economy.
There are also cases that were suspended since he took over as precedent and acquired immunity from judicial proceedings.
A corruption case against him in his former role as secretary to the Defense Ministry was withdrawn in 2019 because of constitutional immunity. Some other investigations were also suspended and there is the possibility of these investigations commencing.
The members of the lotus grouping have been discussing the possibility of the former president entering the parliament as a national list nominee
The Human Rights Commission has recommended to President Wickramasingha that all necessary steps to assess the threat situation and provide former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his family with security protection as needed.
