The Auditor General has pointed out that proper tender procedure has not been followed when purchasing coaI The parliamentary Committee on Public Finance (COPF) has taken note of the Auditor General and recommended that action be taken against the relevant officials who were involved in the coal tender for the Norochcholai coal power plant.
Black Sands Commodities FZ LLC based in the UAE was awarded the tender but later withdrew.

However, the Minister of Power & Energy Kanchana Wijesekara defended the officials in Parliament and said that the committee should listen to the officials’ version before recommending action against them.
