Private energy supply may collapse

The Federation of Renewable Energy Developers (FRED), is complaining that they are struggling with cash flow shortages

Free president Thusitha Peiris said that the Ceylon Electricity Board has failed to settle Rs.35.1 billion worth of invoices owed to them over the past 10 months.

“If the current situation persists, it is most likely that there will be another power tariff increase within the next six months,”

Peiris said.

The private sector Renewable Energy Developers provides about 14 percent of the country’s power requirement.
