The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, (SLRC)is planning to lease out its land to pay salaries and other recurrent expenditures. The SLRC has about 900 employees and a monthly salary bill of Rs. 90 million a month. The SLRC may encounter issues as it could use its land only for purposes mandated by the cooperation activities. The state media including SLRC has been mismanaged for a very long time and has been incurring losses over a period of time. In June 2022 for the first time in 37 years, staff salaries were not paid on time and employees protested.
Media Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that he would be restructuring the organization, but that is yet to happen and the annual loss is around to Rs.300 Million
