Protesters tear gassed and arrested in Colombo

The protesters of the JVP-aligned Socialist Youth Union were tear gassed, attacked, and arrested by about 80 protesters.

Police said two monks, and four females were among those arrested. And those who were injured have been admitted to hospital.

Earlier, police also fired tear gas and use water cannons to disperse protestors at Dean’s Road, Maradana.

Several protestors who were injured during the protest were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has strongly condemned the declaration of high-security zones in  Colombo. The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) announced that it would take appropriate legal action to safeguard the people’s Fundamental Rights.
